Last Saturday, we went to Dearborn, Michigan's Greenfield Village. It is totally awesome. We decided to all go to the village, since the weather was wonderful, sunny and not too hot. The museum is very cool, but it is hard to do both in one day.

Make sure you plan one day, minimum when vacationing in Michigan. The Henry Ford, is what Michigan has and is about, regardless of how you feel about Michigan's economy and its auto industry. Be sure to check out this gem, and when you leave for the day, make sure you give yourself a few minutes to check the gift shop, for memorabilia and the selection of books on Henry Ford, Thomas Edison are awesome!

Fun Along Lake Superior

It's still cold in many parts of Michigan, and the picture in this blog, will usually cool a Southerner pretty good even in the end of July. This is the steep sand dunes near Grand Marais, looking at Lake Superior, the world's largest fresh water lake. Also, close by is Munising's Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore.

Plenty to do here in the summer and for all ages. I find the Upper Peninsula of Michigan to be very relaxing and invigorating. And while you are up here have a nourishing Pasty, cooked for Cornish miners, because it was an easy nourishing meal for a miner to eat and easy to heat up from the heat of the miner's candle.

Memorial Day Weekend

This weekend officially starts the summer vacation season and I think Michigan is going to have a booming year. Wish I could say the same for the automotive industries. But the state has finally decided to diversify and tourism is one of these industries. I am adding another reason why people from nearby states and even from Florida to Missouri to even out West come here.

I have some older photos I plan on scanning for neat tourist spots in the Upper Peninsula but currently have many more from my digital collection and that makes them current.

Anyway here is a favorite of mine, as it is in an area of my mother's side of the family in Tawas City, Michigan. It is on the Au Sable River just north of the city. This river is more a lake, with it's hydroelectric dams that help this part of the state be green, or should I say (has been green for over 50 years and more).

Stay tuned, I will post more, plus I will have other topics as well.

Just Across the Mackinaw Bridge

Just across the bridge from the Lower Peninsula to Michigan's Upper Peninsula is Castle Rock. The glass is more than half-full, hence the glass half-full.

Business is Looking Up

Actually, it's a freighter heading North under the Blue Water Bridge. But it brings to mind that the shipping season is now open, and the ice flow is heading South.

Let's hope that business in the Blue Water area is up this year and let's buck the trend that we may be heading into a recession.

The Port Huron Casino project is going to make it to a vote in April, and then maybe we can get the Senate to look at it. With the mayor of Detroit in hot water, maybe the city will leave us alone. Many of the crimes committed in the area are imported from the big city. Then the city wants to deny the great people of Port Huron and St. Clair County the increased employment and tax dollars that are so needed.

A great idea to let the management of McMorran Place be shared by the county is a great one. There is a survey recently done that shows that a majority of people support McMorran Place and this support comes from Southern areas far away from Port Huron, as well as those regions that are much closer.

The glass is half-full and I think Port Huron is about to become a bigger player in the hi-tech world that is already blooming in cities like Ann Arbor, Holland, Grand Rapids and Lansing.<embed src="http://www.youtube.com/get_player" type="application/x-shockwave-flash"width="320" height="266" bgcolor="#FFFFFF"flashvars="flvurl=http://v22.nonxt1.googlevideo.com/videoplayback?id%3D834fbb26a2caa22c%26itag%3D5%26app%3Dblogger%26ip%3D0.0.0.0%26ipbits%3D0%26expire%3D1333374352%26sparams%3Did,itag,ip,ipbits,expire%26signature%3D3CDF272AC74DB99AD56B60E3321E6C7FCC43F122.4423D3361C48F69DD41A36CE26D93017C29248BD%26key%3Dck1&iurl=http://video.google.com/ThumbnailServer2?app%3Dblogger%26contentid%3D834fbb26a2caa22c%26offsetms%3D5000%26itag%3Dw160%26sigh%3D1xXHoVxueAudsCoQyJ9K5VNBB_E&autoplay=0&ps=blogger"allowFullScreen="true" />

Jobs in the Thumb is 'Job One'

I want to get this blog going again and I am going to give it the theme of jobs for the area. I think Port Huron and surroundings, St. Clair County and then some distance more could be the new hub for the emerging economy.

The automobile industry and Detroit aren't going to do it, in fact they want to hurt it. Detroit's automotive industry has been responsible for the loss of hundreds of jobs in St. Clair County in the past year.

And Detroit isn't helping as the area gets set to accept a new casino at the Blue Water Bridge, Detroit's mayor is doing his best to thwart it.

I want to keep the theme here as ideas on getting new jobs to the area, preferably hi-tech ones that require some college or training.

I don't want to discourage those that have no college, but invite them to complete that high school diploma or GED and then go to school be it St. Clair Community College, Baker College or other college in the state.

This blog is open for discussion and I promise to keep this blog going and to add excitement to it and am hoping for suggestions, perhaps monthly meetings of citizens with ideas or even the means to start something going.

We had an idea man in this community over 100 years ago. What concerns me about this 15 year period for Terri, is that Terri was very concerned about her physical appearance to begin with. She was bulimic. She was very concerned about her appearance. If that was the case, how would she feel about her existance, if she was able to know how she looked now? I believe she would want to end this ordeal. If she was aware of her existance and somehow smiled for her parents, who just could not bear to let go and let God take her, then it is also a selfish, (but I can understand) desire of her parents.

Her husband, Michael has agreed to allow an autopsy upon her 'release to God'. Logically this says that Michael knows he did not mistreat his wife some 15 years ago.

I know that the religious right has very strong feelings about this issue. What is really surprising is that the vast majority of Americans don't share these strong feelings. They would like to see the husband's wishes granted. Maybe, the media can now see that it is not the religious right that should be controlling this country, but as was said many years ago, the 'silent majority', who think that Terri should be allowed to die with dignity.

This is a hard issue full of 'religious emotion'. There is much around us to show there is some kind of 'Supreme Intellegence'. This 'Supreme Intellegence' would want us to use our intellegence to give man a quality life and a long quality life with all the technology we have. But we should not use this intellegent technology to keep our bodies alive, when the 'Soul' of our body has decided it is time to 'Go Home.'

Boat under the bridge

Michigan Thumb and areas along Lake Huron

This is my first blog posting.
